Many of our staff embark on fundraising activities in aid of local or national charities. A team from our branches in Kent & Sussex recently embarked on a 90k cycle ride in aid of the NSPCC who, this year, are celebrating 30 years since Childline, the private and confidential service for children and young people, was launched.

We spoke to Area Director Dan Schopman about the charity ride:
“Although it was the original intention that 30 riders would take part in our fundraising cycle only 12 managed to make it on the day and, starting at the Your Move branch in Bexleyheath, rode through the countryside of Kent and Sussex.
“All went well despite the horrific rain which followed us the whole way but, bearing in mind that we had fewer than anticipated riders – and some of these were complete novices – we were really pleased that we managed to raise nearly £1,500 and hope through continued support we might still reach our fundraising target of £2,000.
“Everyone made such an effort, despite the challenges that the day brought, and I’d like to thank everyone who took part – you were all brilliant. Particular thanks go to Paul and Tammy Winters, from our Abbey Wood branch, for bringing their south east London swagger to keep the spirits high all day. I’d also like to thank Dave Burke (Area Financial Services Director), the Hastings boys who did them and us proud, along with his colleague Pete Shelley who was a real trooper and personally raised more than any other rider – thanks Pete. And special thanks go to Yvonne for the aid via Rightmove: the fuel on route, gel bars, energy drinks, and the well-earned beer at the end of the ride which went down a treat!
Finally I’d like to mention Joe Mullan – our Area Lettings Director – who brought his own individual style to the event. Not only did Joe add two extra miles to his run just to prove the point, he also wore a white outfit which made him look quite dandy at the start of the race, but which was grey by the time he finished.
“We’ve still not quite met our fundraising target but hope that more might be raised over the coming weeks. It’s a great charity and one we simply want to do our best to support.”
