It’s congratulations to the Your Move Financial Services Team who have managed to successfully complete a 24 hour challenge to climb three of the UK’s biggest mountain peaks – Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowden.
Sally Bowen – who took part in the Challenge, provides an account of what happened:
“Well we all got home and completed the challenge successfully although the weather conditions, which were very bad at times on the mountains, did slow everyone down.
“The top of Ben Nevis was so thick with snow that we had to walk across it to get to the summit with barely any visibility. It was really quite scary up there! Rangers were going up as we came down – with the aim to spend the night putting up lanterns along the safe route across the summit in anticipation of the large number of people that were due to climb over the weekend.
“It poured down with rain all through the entire climb up and down on Scafell Pike which made the going really slippery and hard – one of the team tore a ligament in his finger whilst up there which then had to be strapped up using a coffee stirring stick and tape. As well as this others in the team took quite a few falls with a few cuts and plenty of bruises as well as a couple of broken poles.
“The weather on Snowdon was a lot better at the beginning and was at least dry and sunny. There were good views from the top but a heavy mist and cloud set in on the way down.
“Ground crew / drivers were great and made up time on the drive between the mountains which helped with the overall timings. We had a brilliant weekend – it was very tiring and very hard going but we have raised £9,500 so far with money still coming in and we are looking to now run a raffle to raise the remainder of the £10,000 target we set ourselves.”
All the money raised will be donated to Cancer Research and the British Heart Foundation.
