Whilst many people will no doubt be ‘recovering’ from their New Year celebrations on 1 January our colleague, Amanda Welburn- Smith, will be taking part in a grueling 31 mile race to raise money for charity.
Amanda, who is an Administrator for our Franchise Division, decided to take part in the race in honour of a friend who was involved in a serious car crash earlier this year which resulted in her being air-lifted to James Cook hospital in Middlesbrough by Yorkshire Air Ambulance. It’s because of the incredible support the air ambulance crew gave her friend that Amanda has decided to try to raise funds for them – as she explains:
“My friend is making a slow and steady recovery but we both know that without the help and support of Yorkshire Air Ambulance she may not have survived the crash. I therefore decided to do something crazy and challenge myself in order to raise funds for the charity and help them support others who may find themselves in equally challenging situations.
The race I’m taking part in is called the Hardmoors 30, which is a 31 mile race from Robin Hoods Bay, to Whitby, then up the coast to Ravenscar, Hayburn Wyke and back to Robin Hoods Bay. The majority of which is run along the undulating and very muddy Cleveland Way.
The weather on 1 January could be doing anything – with snow, or horizontal rain or sleet highly likely – but whatever the weather the race will go ahead. I’m already training hard in preparation and want to raise as much money as I can for this worthwhile cause. I really hope that people will support me and donate funds to the amazing team of people who we hope we’ll never need, but who need our support to keep operating, just in case we ever do.”
